Drought Contingency Plan

The City of Denison is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to keep and maintain a written Drought Contingency Plan. The primary purpose of this plan is to help the city address and control usage during extended dry weather periods when conservation is needed or when a major system breakdown has occurred that limits overall capacity.

The Drought Contingency Plan lists certain treatment capacity triggers that require actions be taken to not overtax the city’s treatment and distribution systems. Tied to those triggers are requirements for achieving specific system reductions. As weather conditions worsen and system stresses increase, required reductions in usage increase accordingly.
