Do you ever wonder what a day in the life of an officer would be like?

The Denison Citizens Police Academy (DPCA) is designed to build understanding between citizens and the law enforcement officers who serve them. This is a FREE 12-week academy with a graduation ceremony during the last week.

It is the goal of the DCPA to increase police/community relationships and police awareness, as well as dispel suspicions and misconceptions of law enforcement. The classes will cover different divisions within the department and are taught by officers and detectives that are directly involved in that division.

Some of the topics covered could include:

  • Patrol
  • K-9
  • Criminal Investigations Division
  • Firearms
  • Communications Operations
  • Juvenile Law

The class is open to anyone at least 18 years old, who has a Denison address or works in the City of Denison and can pass a background investigation.

Enrollment into the DCPA is held two times a year, Spring and Fall.

Denison Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (DCPAAA)

Upon completion of the course, graduates will have the opportunity to join the DCPAAA. Members of the DCPAAA strive to work alongside the Denison Police Department to help keep the citizens of our community safe. They support our officers at local events directing traffic, providing assistance as needed, or simply helping out our department by distributing water during the hot weather months.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the not-for-profit Denison Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, hereafter referred to as ‘DCPAAA” OR “Association” is to support the City of Denison Police Department through projects and programs benefiting the men and women of the police department as well as the community as its citizens.

Purpose:

The purpose of the DCPAAA shall be to bring together graduates of the Denison Citizens Police Academy to enhance the relations and public awareness between the community and the Police Department through continuing education, community service projects, and direct support of the Denison Police Department.  This will be done within the meaning of the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and the Texas Tax Code Section 1.1.
