Neighborhood Services

Neighborhood Services consists of the Code Compliance and Animal Services Divisions and offers multiple programs that are neighborhood focused. The goal of Neighborhood Services is to ensure compliance with City Ordinances that directly affect the health, safety and welfare of Denison neighborhoods and its residents. It is the vision for Neighborhood Services that all Denison neighborhoods be safe and attractive, neighborhoods where everyone is proud to live.

MPS Assistance

The City of Denison Code of Ordinances require property owners to maintain all homes to meet Minimum Property Standards (MPS), specifically the exterior structure and exterior grounds of properties. The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the value of Denison properties, help ensure the health and safety of neighborhoods while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of Denison neighborhoods.

Demo

The Demolition Program kicked off in 2010 to address dilapidated, unsafe, and unfit structures. The program has removed blight and fire hazards from neighborhoods across Denison.

After demolition, the majority of the lots have been redeveloped, many with new affordable homes. The City continues to actively work this program and expects to continue removing 40 to 50 unsafe buildings annually, clearing the way for quality development, keeping neighborhoods safer, and helping protect property values in the surrounding area.

UDB

Unattended Donation Bins (UDB) are regulated by ordinance (Chapter 11 Article VI) within the city limits of the City of Denison. These regulations were adopted for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Denison, taking into account the attractiveness and aesthetics of properties in which a UDB has been placed. This ordinance provides for an orderly and uniform guide for safe use of a UDB and to nullify the negative impacts UDB’s can have on a community.
