Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events  (CRASE)

In response to the imperative need for preparedness in the face of potential active shooter events, the Denison Police Department is proud to introduce the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training initiative. This program equips businesses and faith-based organizations within the City of Denison with invaluable knowledge and strategies to effectively respond to such critical situations.

Developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University in 2004, CRASE is specifically designed to empower civilians with the necessary skills and plans to navigate and survive active shooter incidents. The Denison Police Department's certified officers, trained through ALERRT, will conduct these vital sessions.

The CRASE training covers various essential topics, including the history and prevalence of active shooter events, understanding the human body's responses to high-stress situations, and civilian response strategies and tactics. Participants will gain insights into proactive measures that can significantly enhance their safety and that of others in their community.

About the Course:

The CRASE course spans approximately 2 hours, comprising a comprehensive 90-minute presentation followed by an interactive 30-minute question and answer session. The Denison Police Department is committed to delivering this training conveniently, and sessions can be conducted at the participants' location, provided there is adequate space and basic audio/video capabilities.

As an added service, the Denison Police Department offers site visits to participating organizations, where experts can provide insights into existing security practices and emergency plans, further bolstering preparedness and resilience.
