Community Engagement

The Community Services Division strives to promote positive relationships between the Police Department and the citizens we serve.

Additionally, the division partners with our community to also resolve problems, reduce crime, and the fear of crime to enhance public safety and quality of life within the city. National research shows that when residents have an increased comfort level with police officers, they feel safer in their homes and in their communities. Increasing the comfort level of citizens with officers – who represent authority figures – is a step toward engaging citizens and police in a more cooperative effort to deal with neighborhood issues. Knowing a police officer is a factor in whether or not a person follows simple crime reduction recommendations such as locking the car and house and providing sufficient outside lighting.

In order to achieve its goals, Community Services Division officers and members of our Denison Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association works with citizens and businesses, government and civic organizations, as well as schools and education-based programs.

The partnerships created by the division are an invaluable asset to the police department.
